The Kiribati Outer Islands Resilience and Adaptation Project (KOIRAP) is helping island communities across Kiribati strengthen their ability to respond to climate change while improving essential infrastructure, services and long-term development planning.

Working closely with Island Councils, communities, government ministries and development partners, KOIRAP transforms climate-resilience planning into practical actions that improve everyday life and prepare our islands for the future.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support resilient, sustainable and empowered island communities by strengthening local institutions, improving essential infrastructure and ensuring that development decisions take climate and disaster risks into account.

Climate change presents significant challenges for Kiribati, including drought, coastal erosion, flooding, sea-level rise, pressure on freshwater resources and increasing risks to public infrastructure.

KOIRAP works with communities to address these challenges through practical solutions that respond to local priorities and strengthen long-term resilience.
